Suggest your favourite buildings to live work or play in; and we will review their feng shui and tell you why they are so good.
Monkey flower or Mimosa is a flower that appears just once a year and you would think New Year’s celebrations also occurred only once. Think again! Yesterday’s Chinese New Year was the second New Year celebration we enjoyed this year and these celebrations are based on the lunar cycle, which occurs on the second new moon after the winter solstice.
Now here’s where things get a bit confusing. In mainstream Chinese astrology and feng shui, the real New Year begins on 4th February when the Sun starts a new solar cycle. It isn’t until then that the zodiac sign changes, so anyone born today or prior to February would still have last year’s metal Rabbit as their animal year sign. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell you that in Chinese astrology books and is why we explain it here.
Due to our extremely busy schedule, this is our first blog of 2012 and we can’t stay long. We will provide our thoughts and comments on the new Water Dragon year around February 4th, but as a spoiler, Monkeys, Rats and Dragon signs will all flower or flourish in the year ahead.
The Tong Shu, Tong Sing, Chinese or farmer’s almanac, even The Book of Nature, (all the same book) has the following suggestions. Do; open a business and trade, renovate home or office, travel, lay foundations. Do not sign contracts in meetings.
It is our busiest time right now and we ask you to bear with us and we will be back as soon as we can. Until then, make the most of NOW!

Howl at the Monkey Moon - now that’s clever! This Wood Monkey day welcomes a New Moon tonight and putting the two together, perhaps we should have called it “Howler” instead of howl at. Speaking of similarities, did you know that the Chinese word for Monkey, “Hou”, is the same as the word for clever, so let’s try to continue cleverly!
Howl is still appropriate though, as shouting is one of the traits associated with the Wood element, especially when it is out of balance. This would normally be the case with a Wood Monkey, as the Monkey’s element is metal which clashes with Wood to create pressure, maybe even rage. However, today's Wood Monkey is well balanced by the seasonal water element, so it is able to use its power more wisely. Now that is clever.
Speaking of which, the “smart” things to do today according to the Chinese almanac, are meditation, asking for blessings, visiting friends, having a haircut, travelling, even emigrating, getting married, having an astrology reading, buying or making clothes,
moving earth, fixing a roof, or setting up a tombstone.
To see how your own sign is affected today see our dedicated Wood Monkey web page and as Mondays are so hectic of late, we will return next Tuesday.
Until then, enjoy NOW!
Monkey tree; - that’s a puzzle!Today's title should be taken literally as a Monkey Tree is also known as a Monkey Puzzle tree. Inspiration for this slight nod to humour occurs on this Wood Monkey day due to the Yang Wood in today's sign. This symbolises a great tree, with its roots in the earth, its leaves in heaven and its beauty for mankind to benefit from. Many ancient civilisations and teachings share this philosophy and in Chinese astrology it can also symbolise the “luck trinity”, said to unite mankind with heaven and earth.
On the subject of luck the Chinese almanac suggests travelling, having a haircut, getting married, buying or making clothes, emigrating, signing contracts and trading, moving earth, fixing a roof, planting, or setting up a tombstone as suitable activities.
We will return tomorrow on a Wood Rooster day, until then enjoy NOW!
No matter how tight a monkey's trousers are, there’s always space for his tail! And space is one of the attributes associated with the wood element; highly appropriate on this Wood Monkey day. As is the playful tendency of this creature and even the Chinese almanac appears to have an ear-to-ear grin. It suggests meditation, asking for blessings, taking a course, visiting friends, having a haircut, getting married, exchanging gifts, having an astrology reading, emigrating, opening a business refurbishing home or office, moving earth, fixing a roof, setting up a new door or oven, or even a tombstone. It advises against opening a warehouse, chasing debts, setting up a bed or buying land.
In the harmonics, it’s a water day, so good for communicating or being near water, whilst the lunar mansion is associated with a Wolf, which could be a bit worrisome in this sheep month. Oh well, we could always call for help if needed.
To see how your own signs are affected tomorrow see our Wood Rooster web page.
Monkey trouble - go with the flow? As you can probably guess today is a Monkey day, but which of the five types of monkey in Chinese astrology has trouble? Answer = Wood Monkey. When found in a day pillar it indicates a qi blockage and normally means they keep their emotion contained which will cause difficulties in expressing themselves and can lead to health problems.
Expressing themselves, or communicating is the cure to this problem as it represents the water element, much needed to balance. It is said that some people “come alive” or gain presence, and this is certainly true of this type. When their fears are conquered this gives them a powerful, if not intense personality.
They are usually tall, muscular or curvaceous depending on gender, adventurous and playful. They stand out in a crowd, have natural magnetism and are sometimes irresistible to the opposite sex. If this is you, or you know someone like this they / you would have been born between August 8th and September 7th in any year ending with 0 or 5. Or those born in 1944 or 2004, like Antonio Banderas, Roger Daltrey, Michael Douglas, David Duchovny, J Boog, Dana Hamm, Rutger Hauer, , Sean Penn, Chris Pine, Claudia Schiffer, Charlize Theron, and Shania Twain. You could have course been born on a Wood Monkey day like Carl Sagan.
Wood monkeys can also be found in your day and hour of birth and you can get a free Chinese horoscope to see either if you have one, or what you have. Or to improve your quality of life by understating and supporting your specific energy have a professional astrology reading
Weather wise Wood Monkey days indicates being cool and windy depending on natural climate conditions, wrap up warm and eat well. Here are some ideas for foods? Today’s energy favours sour and bitter tastes also astringent vegetables, such as Celery. However, salty tastes would be preferable, as this balances the clash between wood and metal (Monkey).
Monkey madness rules today and you will find that your normal playful sense of humour gains recognition. It has been a difficult time for simians over the past 13 months and they can do with the extra attention and support. Their elemental pal the Rooster who is clashed all year, may suffer even more setbacks today and should plan ahead and pay attention to details. Tigers should also follow this advice as they are likewise clashed for today only Monkey mates of Rat and Dragon gain support and extra creativity respectively.
Money wise Snake and Horse signs fare best, their males are lucky in love too. Whilst, female wood signs of Rabbit find love. Dog, Goat, Ox find relaxation as the Pig is pumped and raring to go!
According to the natural flown of nature as depicted in the Chinese almanac suitable activities for today include, meditation, taking a course, travelling, getting married, having a haircut, sweeping house, pampering and indulgence, move or build a new home, or refurbish, buy or make clothes, cook, set up a tombstone emigrate. Trouble comes from opening a warehouse or new business or collecting debts.
Today’s Wood Monkey is the complete opposite of our annual qi, namely Metal Tiger and is truly the year break. Consequently, the Chinese almanac suggests today is only suitable to ask ancestors for guidance and taking things apart, which can be loosely translated as tidying up matters.
Normally Tigers would clash on a Monkey day but helped by the annual qi it should not be too bad, Monkeys are at the centre of attention and can make new friends, whilst setbacks may await the other metal sign of Rooster. Rat and Pig signs are full of energy and new ideas, Rabbits gain power and recognition. Snake and Horse signs have money luck, and Dragon, Goat, Dog and Ox can be less stressed and may travel.
Famous Monkey signs include Chris Pine, & Jake Gyllenhaal, American actors, Ronaldinho, Brazilian football player and Kylie Minogue to name but a few.
